Gujarati Bolt Earrings
One of a kind unique jewelry traditions like these are very rare to come by!
These memorable sculpted earrings are traditionally worn by Rabari (pastoral nomad community) women in the Western Indian state of Gujarat. The design looks as if they would be heavy weights, when in fact the construction of the design is hollow. The Rabari women have a very unique style still seen in rural villages today, sporting neck and arm tattoos and large stretched ears.
As Nakarali is deeply invested in the tribal, nomadic and rural culture of Rajasthan, we spent many years collecting old pieces such as these from village silver shops - saving them from being melted down for raw silver. Until one day we found a village silversmith who still had the mold to make these designs in high quality silver. These earrings are contemporary - traditional: made brand new just for you! We love supporting rural craftspeople and perpetuating disappearing traditions.
Due to the design a stretched ear piercing is required to ear this design. Approximately 0 gauge or larger.
